When the reforming unit is started, the system is first purged with nitrogen, and then hydrogen is introduced to displace the nitrogen. Why is it necessary to replace nitrogen with hydrogen? Can’t the reactants react under nitrogen conditions?
Easy charring is caused by unsaturated olefins, but there are strict requirements for the olefins in reforming feed
Hydrogen inhibits coking, because the mechanical seals differ when the compressor operates under nitrogen conditions versus under hydrogen conditions, which is unsafe.
1. Nitrogen has a high density; as a result, the oil feed systems in reformers and compressors operating under nitrogen conditions will be overloaded and prone to damage； 2. Direct delivery of hydrogen produced through reforming under nitrogen conditions to the pipeline network has an impact on subsequent hydrogen-consuming devices ； 3. Simply in terms of the reaction, hydrogen is a product; increasing its partial pressure can reduce the severity of the reaction and prevent excessive carbon deposition on the catalyst. Nitrogen is an inert gas and does not have such a function.
The reforming reactions cannot take place in a nitrogen environment; a hydrogen environment is necessary.
