China’s first BTM industrial demonstration facility was inaugurated in Puyang

On December 30, 2016, the first domestic industrial demonstration plant for the catalytic production of high-quality fuel (BTM) through straw pyrolysis, liquefaction, and hydrogenation, developed jointly by Sinopec Luoyang Engineering Co., Ltd., Henan Baiyoufu Bioenergy Co., Ltd., and other organizations, was inaugurated in Puyang City, Henan Province. It is reported that BTM technology is a new energy technology that uses wooden materials such as straw as raw materials, and through thermal pyrolysis and hydrogenation to produce mixed fuel oils such as gasoline and diesel. At present, the key research tasks related to this technology have been largely completed, placing it at the forefront of similar technology developments both domestically and internationally. To accelerate the pace of promotion and application, the cooperating parties have decided to develop and build a 30,000-ton industrial demonstration facility in the industrial zone of Puyang City, Henan Province, in order to carry out engineering technology development and industrial verification of the scientific and technological achievements obtained earlier. At present, the engineering design work for this project has been fully launched, while procurement and construction activities are being prepared in an orderly and diligent manner. Once successfully developed, this technology will not only open up a completely new alternative to petroleum-based technologies, providing technical support for diversifying fuel sources, but it will also enable the thorough conversion and utilization of wooden materials such as straw. This approach can help reduce environmental pollution, achieve energy conservation and emission reduction, increase farmers’ incomes, and stimulate the development of various related industries; it is truly an environmentally friendly new technology that benefits both the country and its people.
