The packing seals used in the high-pressure liquid ammonia reciprocating pumps I’ve seen are all oil-sealed, but I read an article suggesting that replacing the oil seal with a water seal can yield good results. After all, I haven’t seen it, so I haven’t figured it out myself. Sealing water serves two purposes: one is to provide sealing, and the other is to cool and lubricate the packing. If water sealing is used, the reaction between water and ammonia is exothermic; could this lead to an increase in the temperature of the packing, thereby hindering the proper operation of the equipment? Please clear up my doubts! ! ! !
