Question: For a plate heat exchanger with a water-to-water medium, the design operating temperature is 150°C and the design operating pressure is 1.6 MPa. Does the above plate heat exchanger fall under the category of pressure vessels?
A temperature of 150 falls within the range for pressure vessels
1 Working pressure ≥ 0.1 MPa; 2 Volume exceeding 0.025 m3; 3 Maximum temperature exceeding the boiling point of the material. If all three conditions are met, it is considered a pressure vessel
Those that meet the criteria are considered pressure vessels; however, the Large Vessel Regulations now exclude plate heat exchangers, which are no longer covered by these regulations. See TSG21-2016, clause 1.5, item (5).
It doesn’t belong; a heat exchanger is simply a regular static equipment. It isn’t a container in itself; otherwise, wouldn’t pipes also become pressure vessels?
The relevant manufacturing standard is NB/T 47004
I am from a manufacturer; our company does not have the qualifications required for handling pressure vessels, so they do not fall under the category of pressure vessels
