Currently, under the NB/T47008 forging standards, suppliers of 16Mn forgings report that it is impossible to obtain the raw material 16Mn – steel mills no longer produce it, and inspection agencies also state that there is no more 16Mn available; now it is Q345A, B, C, D, and E that are used instead; But the 2017 version of NB/T47008 still uses the 16Mn grade – what’s going on? Which standard does the raw material for NB/T47008 forgings actually follow?
Under the old standards, 16Mn and 16Mn forgings were two distinct materials: one was a sheet material while the other was a forged version; 16MnR corresponds to what is now known as Q345R. As for the pipe material, I forgot about it. It can’t be said that 16Mn no longer exists; its name has just changed. It does show that this is a bit unprofessional; one should know after making the changes, and such a response is rather irresponsible.
I also want to know, which forging grade should be specified?
Q345A, B, C, D, and E are all grades for plates; does the forging factory you’re working with use steel plates as blanks? Who said there are no 16Mn ingots anymore?

How is it that 16Mn isn’t available? Q345 is generally available in the form of sheets and bars
