Dear colleagues: As I work in the environmental protection industry and have limited experience with heat exchangers, my current equipment requires a small air preheater of the horizontal tube type. The specifications are as follows: The compressed air to be heated has a flow rate of 500 Nm3/h and a pressure of 0.4 MPa; it is necessary to raise the temperature of this compressed air from 20 degrees Celsius to 160 degrees Celsius. Heating steam: 1.0 MPa saturated steam. I would be extremely grateful if experienced users who work with heat exchangers could help calculate the heat exchange area, the approximate dimensions of the equipment, as well as the pressure drops for compressed air and saturated steam using software. I would also like to ask whether, under these operating conditions, it is better to use the steam in the tube side or the shell side, given that both the air and the steam are relatively clean.

What is the heat transfer coefficient? Does the steam go through the tube side?
It is also possible to use inward-facing fins so that compressed air flows through the tube side; the current temperature range is sufficient for this purpose. If the quality of the heat source on site can be guaranteed, the air outlet temperature can be increased further. It’s just that the tolerance is too low.
