In the conveying industry, there are many terms related to rollers. Generally, they can be classified as follows: by material – galvanized carbon steel rollers (the most common type), stainless steel rollers, aluminum alloy rollers, PVC rollers, and so on; by drive mechanism – sprocket-driven rollers, V-belt driven rollers, stepper motor-driven rollers, and so on; there are also electric rollers with motors built into them! Today, I would like to discuss a few differences between drums and idlers. These are some observations I’ve made, meant for everyone’s reference. Generally speaking, the technical requirements for idlers are higher than those for drums; manufacturers that produce drums usually cannot also produce idlers. Whether it’s the precision requirements, the equipment needed for processing, or the materials and components required, technical testing is also essential! For rollers used in the general food industry, these requirements are relatively much lower; as long as the roller can rotate, it can be used, and there are usually no major problems However, for idler rollers, they are generally used in large belt conveyors for transporting coal, lime, and iron ore, in outdoor environments with harsh conditions; such demanding operating conditions mean that the manufacturing standards for idler rollers must be higher than those for regular rollers!
