Some very new valves, which are not large, cannot be turned by hand. In chemical plants, valves of all sizes are turned using F wrenches. Could this have an impact on the valve’s sealing performance and lifespan? Is it due to poor quality in valve production? Are foreign valves also turned using F wrenches?
New valves with a smaller diameter cannot be turned by hand; this is due not only to the manufacturing precision of the valve itself but also to the operating conditions, such as pressure and the type of medium used. However, the quality of the valves has the greatest impact; in the end, it’s simply a matter of poor quality. I watched a video of a foreign refinery where all the valves, large and small, were turned by hand; there weren’t any F-ratchets to be seen at all.
Operating most valves manually is actually quite difficult, as the vast majority of companies in China use valves equipped with differential gearboxes very rarely; therefore, using an F wrench makes the operation easier. When purchasing manual valves, differential gearboxes are not included in order to save costs, as this component acts as a type of assist mechanism. Not all foreign companies use differential gearboxes; some use F wrenches as well, though this is less common. Many companies in our country still fall far short when it comes to showing care for their workers.
