The traditional design method for screw conveyors is one that is based on experience, intuition, and static manual labor, and it includes the following methods: (1) Analogical design method for screw conveyors: The analogical design method is a technique for designing new machines by comparing them with existing machines of the same type or similar in nature. According to this method, before designing, it is first necessary to base the design on the performance requirements imposed on the equipment by the manufacturing process. At the same time, reference is made to existing similar machines and equipment, and estimates are made based on experience in order to address the shortcomings of those older devices. This leads to the formulation of one or several new design proposals, which are then analyzed and compared; the best proposal is selected, or the advantages of various proposals are combined to create the final design. Clearly, it is a design method that emerges from localized innovation based on the designer’s accumulated experience. The design effort for this design method is substantial, and the design cycle is very long. It is still widely used today. (2) Design trial method for screw conveyors: This method is based on certain theoretical formulas; under specific technical conditions, the corresponding parameter values are calculated. If the results obtained are not satisfactory, the technical conditions are changed and calculations are repeated until a result that is considered ideal is achieved. Its computational workload is also high, and it is difficult to obtain truly ideal results. However, due to a lack of computing tools, it is still widely used in China at present. (3) Screw conveyor design table method: This method involves using certain theoretical formulas, along with standard size series and material parameters, to prepare pre-made system tables for use in the design process. It reduces the amount of work required and speeds up the design process. However, this method is difficult to yield ideal results. (4) Helical conveyor design diagram algorithm: The principle of this method is the same as that of the table method, but it differs from the table method. Graph algorithms are used for design with specialized graphs known as network diagrams, which are drawn at a certain scale. Its computational workload is **reduced**, and the results obtained are much better than those from the tabular method. The specific design of a screw conveyor includes: ① Selecting the appropriate type of screw conveyor based on the conveying conditions and requirements. ②Calculate the screw diameter based on specific conveying requirements, and select the screw type and arrangement pattern. ③Calculate the transmission power and select appropriate drive devices such as motors and reducers accordingly. ④Select appropriate parameters according to the design manual to determine the shape and dimensions of the conveyor. ⑤Determine the length combinations of the screw conveyor and the weight of each section. ⑥Draw the assembly diagram of the screw conveyor system and the diagrams of some key components.
