Hello, Haiyou. The evaporation system in our facility uses 316L valves, which suffer from severe corrosion; they start leaking within just half a year. Do you have any good suggestions? (Process conditions: 150 degrees, 50% ion-exchange membrane caustic solution.) It’s also a 150-degree, 50% diaphragm caustic solution (containing NaCl). What type of valve material would be resistant to corrosion in such conditions? Thank you!

This involves high-temperature, concentrated alkalis, requiring nickel materials such as A494 CZ-100.
I inquired about the material used for the alkali solution pipes in 50% caustic soda evaporation units at our company; it’s all nickel 200. As for the material of the valves, I still need to find out more.
Nickel materials are also an option, but in these operating conditions their cost-effectiveness is lower than that of ultra-pure ferritic stainless steel, especially in the presence of chlorates

Hello, curator. I would like to ask whether stainless steel can resist corrosion caused by chloride ions? I’m not familiar with material corrosion; I’d like to know what materials are resistant to chloride corrosion, besides polytetrafluoroethylene. Thank you!
