Before putting the catalysts in the hydrogenation unit into operation, pre-sulfurization is required. However, this process leads to very high H2S levels in the equipment and pipelines. Since the temperature of the equipment used for pre-sulfurization does not reach the temperature necessary for normal operation of the same equipment and pipelines, it is possible that equipment which is not subject to wet H2S corrosion under normal operating conditions ends up in an environment prone to such corrosion during pre-sulfurization. Moreover, since the pre-sulfurization procedure only specifies the temperature for the catalysts and not for other equipment, it is difficult to determine which equipment is exposed to wet H2S corrosion. (According to Appendix SH3075, for a wet H2S corrosion environment, the temperature must not exceed 150°C; if the temperature exceeds 150°C, wet H2S corrosion need not be considered.) The main issue is the lack of information regarding temperatures. So what should I do to address this problem? How can I determine which equipment is exposed to wet H2S corrosion during the sulfurization process?
It would be better to ask about the hydrogenation section in the petrochemical complex; have the process engineers explain which areas might experience wet hydrogen sulfide conditions during pre-sulfidization. We haven’t considered the pipelines; the sulfidation temperatures specified by the process are quite high, so wet hydrogen sulfide conditions are not taken into account
