When contacting some clients these days, some of them say that fewer and fewer people use fiberglass-reinforced plastic anti-corrosion products these days; almost everyone uses stainless steel instead. In your opinion, are fiberglass-reinforced plastic anti-corrosion products still widely used by companies these days? Today, the editor has compiled the features of fiberglass-reinforced plastic corrosion resistance. 1. Excellent impact resistance: The strength of fiberglass-reinforced plastic is higher than that of steel pipes, ductile iron, and concrete; its specific strength is approximately 3 times that of steel, 10 times that of ductile iron, and 25 times that of concrete ; The falling weight of 1.5 kg does not cause damage at an impact height of 1600 mm. 2. Chemical resistance: Through the proper selection of raw materials and a scientific design of thickness, fiberglass-reinforced plastic offers excellent chemical stability, enabling it to be used for extended periods in environments containing acids, alkalis, salts, and organic solvents. In particular, water causes almost no corrosion to fiberglass-reinforced plastic, giving it excellent corrosion resistance. Unlike metal pipe systems that require strict internal and external coatings or cathodic protection, it essentially needs no protection throughout its service life. 3. Good thermal insulation performance: Since fiberglass products are composed of polymer materials and reinforcing materials, they have a low thermal conductivity ; Being only 1/100 to 1/1000 of metal, it is an excellent insulating material that ensures the water remains at a constant temperature in summer, thereby preventing the growth of microorganisms. 4. Low coefficient of thermal expansion: Due to its low coefficient of thermal expansion (2.0×10-5/℃), fiberglass can adhere better to the substrate. 5. Light in weight and high in strength, with easy installation; its specific gravity is only 2/3 that of concrete ; So, comparatively, its overall weight is low. Therefore, it is easy to load and unload and simple to install. 6. Excellent construction properties: Before curing and shaping, due to the fluidity of the resin, various molding methods can be used to easily shape the glass fiber reinforcement into the desired form ; This feature is most suitable for the construction requirements of large-scale, integrated, and complex equipment, allowing for on-site construction depending on the environmental conditions. 7. Excellent hydraulic properties: Glass fiber reinforced plastic pipes have a smooth inner surface, resulting in a low friction coefficient for water flow. The roughness coefficient of fiberglass-reinforced plastic pipes is only 0.0053–0.0084, whereas that of concrete pipes is 0.013–0.014, representing a difference of 55%–164%. With a sufficient flow rate and the same available water resources, the pipe diameter can be reduced, thereby saving on investment. Under conditions of considerable flow rate and the same pipe diameter, it can save more than 20% on pump power and energy consumption, reduce head pressure, and lower operational energy use. 8. It possesses excellent physical properties: it has good adhesion, does not crack or form scale, the water quality is not contaminated by microorganisms in the water nor oxidized and rusted, causing no secondary pollution; it ensures a constant flow rate of water as well as consistent purity of the water quality.
