Why can’t the newly treated metal surface be touched with hands?

Sometimes, our corrosion prevention managers, when checking the metal surface treatment of anti-corrosion works, inadvertently touch them with their hands; in fact, this is a very bad habit. This is because human sweat is a colorless or pale yellow liquid with a salty taste and weak acidity, its pH value being 5-6. In addition to sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium salts, it also contains small amounts of organic acids such as urea, lactic acid, and citric acid. When sweat comes into contact with metal, a layer of sweat film forms on the surface of the metal. This sweat film exerts an electrochemical effect on the metal, causing it to corrode. Sometimes, due to our inadvertent touch of the treated metal surface, the anti-corrosion treatment can cause bubbling and damage to the anti-corrosion layer over time. It is inevitable for people to sweat. To prevent rusting caused by sweaty hands, one should wear gloves or finger covers and avoid touching the treated metal surfaces with bare hands.
