Factors affecting the cost of anti-corrosion coatings in anti-corrosion construction. When selecting anti-corrosion coatings (paints) for anti-corrosion work, in addition to factors such as the quality of the coatings and the availability of technical support, cost is a very important factor. The factors that affect the cost of anti-corrosion coatings are as follows: 1. The thickness of the anti-corrosion coating layer. Although, strictly speaking, building coatings have requirements regarding thickness, most builders do not pay attention to this; instead, they focus more on properties such as coverage and color, which are related to the aesthetic appearance of the coating ; However, anti-corrosion coatings have strict requirements regarding the thickness of the anti-corrosion paint layer, as different thicknesses result in varying levels of corrosion protection. Relevant industry authorities have established guidelines for the required thickness of the coating layer under various corrosion conditions and for different expected service lifespans. The more severe the corrosion environment, the longer the required service life and the thicker the coating layer must be. With other conditions remaining constant, more paint is needed, which in turn leads to higher costs for the anti-corrosion coating. 2. Solid content of the selected anti-corrosion paint: The solid content is an important parameter relating to the properties of paint. If a paint has a solid content of 60%, it means that 40% of the paint material will evaporate, with only 60% remaining as the substance that forms the film. Therefore, at a given film thickness, the higher the solid content, the larger the area that can be covered per unit amount of material. Below is the relationship between the theoretical coating rate and solid content: Theoretical coating rate = Solid content (%) × 10 / Dry film thickness. In other words, the higher the solid content, the greater the coverage area per unit of material; this means less paint is needed per unit area, resulting in lower material costs. 3. Control of paint loss during the painting process. There are many factors that cause paint loss throughout the painting process, including: (1) roughness-related losses, (2) distribution-related losses of paint, (3) actual coating losses, and (4) waste of paint. Among these, losses related to (1) and (2) are inevitable, with few elements that can be controlled manually; whereas losses related to (3) and (4) can be controlled manually and depend on the skill level of the workers as well as the quality of the painting process management. At the same time, different construction methods result in varying levels of loss. Differences in losses lead to varying amounts of anti-corrosion material required per unit of steel structure, which in turn results in significant differences in costs. 4. Unit price of anti-corrosion paint: Obviously, the price per kilogram of the anti-corrosion material is also an important factor, but based on the analysis above, the unit price of this material is not the only factor that determines the cost of anti-corrosion materials in such applications. Therefore, when carrying out anti-corrosion work and selecting anti-corrosion coatings, it is necessary to pay attention to both the product quality and price. At the same time, it is important to be aware of relevant parameters of the paint, such as its solid content. Additionally, attention should also be given to the designed dry film thickness and the methods of application, as these factors all influence the effectiveness of the anti-corrosion coating in anti-corrosion applications
