We have two piston-type nitrogen compressors rated at 6000, but at full load they only manage to produce around 4000. After checking relevant information, it was found that flow control orifice plates are installed before and after the buffer tank at the compressor inlet, as well as at the inlets and outlets of the inlet filter and the inter-stage heat exchangers. The pipeline diameter is DN200, while the size of the flow control orifice plates is 100 mm. I’m not sure whether the size of these orifice plates is too small; how can one calculate the maximum flow rate allowed by these orifice plates? The compressor inlet filter and all the valves of the compressor have been checked, and there are no issues.
For valve inspection, leak testing with water is required, as well as checking for indentations on the valve plate gaskets and verifying that the suction pressure meets the process requirements; additionally, it is necessary to ensure that the suction filter is thoroughly cleaned using gas. Touch the suction valve gland with your hand to check if it is hot. Is there any abnormality in the pressure at a certain level? Are the piston rings excessively worn, and are they installed with proper alignment?

Filters are usually not visible on the surface; try blowing them with high-pressure gas. Oh, there’s one more thing to note: whether the flow meter is calibrated, and whether the gas passage of the annular flange around the flow orifice has been cleaned and inspected.
Inspection revealed that 8 air valves were leaking, and all of them were replaced. From the start, the capacity wasn’t sufficient; I wondered if the flow restriction orifice was too small ! ! !
