In chemical processing units or oil refining plants, some tanks are equipped with two oil-containing wastewater discharge outlets at their bottoms: one is connected via a sealed pipeline, while the other is connected through an open floor drain. What is the purpose of the floor drain with an open connection?
It would be best to have a diagram; seeing it is the most intuitive way to understand. Guess: one is oily wastewater with a high oil content, and the other is sewage with a high water content.
In fact, such a design has certain risks: open-connected drain traps can indeed balance the pressure difference, but they also tend to allow oil- and gas-containing substances to leak out, leading to potential problems.
