So is the design pressure of this reactor still at atmospheric pressure, without needing to consider the impact of the pressure of the heating medium on the reactor vessel? The effect of external pressure on the reactor vessel must be taken into account; it can be designed for normal pressure, but its strength must be checked based on the pressure required by the heating medium.
No need to be an expert in mechanics; it’s still considered a pressure vessel at normal pressure. The new regulatory standards explicitly state that this is not within the scope of pressure vessel regulation.
The outer coil acts as a jacket! The equipment’s inner container and outer coil are each designed according to their respective operating pressures! It’s still a atmospheric-pressure device! But the wall thickness of the inner container is determined by the design pressure of the outer coil!
