Just arrived at this post, and someone shared some 3D piping diagrams – I’m really envious. Unfortunately, I’m not even familiar with the software used for this purpose. Could the experts here discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the commonly used 3D software such as PDS, PDMS, SP3D, Cadworx, Cad Plant 3D, etc.?
For professional 3D piping work, is it done by modifying someone else’s 2D piping diagrams, or is it drawn directly from PID files? Do those factors not need to be considered? Is it possible to create 3D piping diagrams using just a PID file?
We create 3D diagrams directly based on the PID, and most of the requirements are determined by extracting data from the model; additional conditions that are not present in the model are then added. For one project, we tried having each specialty examine the conditions within the model, and it worked fairly well. Currently, the mainstream 3D design software used by large engineering companies in China is probably PDS, PDMS, and sp3d. PDMS and SP3D belong to the same category. PDS was an earlier product of EagleTech; nowadays, SP3D is the one that is primarily promoted. The functions of these software programs are similar – any of them can be used for design, after all, it’s just a tool. Personally, I think PDMS is easier to get started with, but EagleTech’s product range is broader, which is advantageous for integrating software within a company. So, for integrating various professional software applications, SP3D is probably the better choice
Is it quite troublesome to use 3D software for the first time?
It’s quite troublesome if it’s the company’s first time using it. If other people in the company use it, you can start using it right away by using it together with them
