What is the difference between soft start and variable frequency start? Are the results of the action all the same?
Soft starting is primarily used to adjust the output voltage and reduce the voltage impact on the power grid when the motor starts. Since the frequency cannot be adjusted, it is not possible to control the motor’s speed. Variable frequency drives, on the other hand, allow for adjustments to both the voltage and the output frequency, thereby enabling control of the motor’s speed. In general, variable frequency drives can be used as a substitute for soft starters, but using a soft starter in place of a variable frequency drive only solves the starting issue; it does not allow for speed control
Can it be understood in this way: variable-frequency pumps do not require soft starting, while high-pressure pumps with a common frequency and high power levels do need soft starting
If variable frequency drive is installed, there is no need to use soft start. Decide based on the actual power consumption of the equipment; if the motor’s power is relatively low and the electrical appliances are operating under normal load conditions, then soft start can be used, as it is relatively inexpensive; If the motor has a high power rating and the actual load varies significantly, it is recommended to use an inverter for regulation. On one hand, starting at low frequencies is no problem; on the other hand, the speed can be adjusted to reduce the actual current and thus save energy consumption.
