In the liquid chlorine tank area, the exhaust gases are absorbed by an absorption tower. There is one problem: the HVAC system calculates the fan capacity based on the volume of the facility and the required number of air changes, which results in a very high value – several hundred thousand. I said that this wasn’t acceptable; the owner surely wouldn’t agree to it. The HVAC team asked me to provide the normal amount of leakage from the valves so that they could do the calculations. But does anyone actually know how to calculate such amounts of leakage?
The air volume is indeed very high. 1. When the leakage level reaches the chlorine alarm concentration, the absorption unit must be activated. This amount can be calculated. 2. The volume of the factory building should be designed to be as small as possible. 3. After a leak occurs, the chlorine leak source must be manually shut off. The ventilation time should be appropriately extended; during ventilation, the facility must remain sealed, and unauthorized personnel are prohibited from entering or leaving. In this way, the fan can be designed to be smaller. It’s still necessary to communicate with the owner.
Could you please tell me what is used as a reference for calculating the leakage amount?
Regarding the leakage volume, I think it is included in the accident ventilation. Dear poster, may I ask if the absorber you designed is a single-tower or double-tower type? Are the diameters of the towers the same in a double-tower setup? I am also working on a chlorine absorption project.
