On April 27–28, 2021, the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation held the Sixth Conference on the Comprehensive Utilization, Treatment, and Disposal of Solid Waste in the chemical industry in Yixing City, Jiangsu Province. Representatives from industry regulatory authorities, research institutions, universities, industry associations, as well as enterprises in fields such as petrochemical production, environmental protection equipment manufacturing and services, and inspection and testing attended the meeting. A relevant official from the Department of Energy Conservation and Comprehensive Utilization of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology attended the meeting. The meeting featured discussions on the current status and existing problems regarding solid waste in the chemical industry, the requirements stipulated by the Law on the Prevention and Control of Environmental Pollution caused by Solid Waste and the measures to implement them, as well as technical standards and policy recommendations. The representatives present shared typical experiences in areas such as solid waste identification, capacity building for management, and the research, development, and application of technologies for treatment and disposal, drawing on practical cases. They agreed that the Law on the Prevention and Control of Environmental Pollution Caused by Solid Waste provides a strong legal foundation for the comprehensive utilization, treatment, and disposal of solid waste in the petrochemical industry. Accelerating technological innovation and industrial application in related fields, overcoming technical and equipment challenges related to the comprehensive utilization and treatment of solid waste, establishing sound regulatory frameworks, policies, standards, and systems, and strengthening supervision and management are all important measures for the petrochemical industry to implement this law, and they also serve as key guarantees for promoting high-quality development in the industry.
