On May 17, an appraisal meeting for the scientific and technological achievement of the \"highly crystalline third-generation continuous silicon carbide fibers\", independently developed by Hunan Zerui New Materials Co., Ltd., was held in Liuyang, Hunan. The evaluation results show that this achievement reaches the international advanced level, filling a technical gap in related fields in China. It is understood that this achievement is aimed at meeting the demands for super-high temperature resistance and creep-resistant structural reinforcement materials in high-end equipment sectors such as aero engines and gas turbines. Research and development efforts have focused on the preparation of ceramic matrix composite reinforcements for temperatures above 1500°C, with key advances being made in areas such as high-performance and low-cost production methods. Continuous silicon carbide fibers are one of the important reinforcing materials for advanced ceramic matrix composites. They possess properties such as high temperature resistance, oxidation resistance, low density, and high strength, and can be used in applications such as hot-section components of aero engines, gas turbines, hypersonic vehicles, and nuclear energy equipment. As the thrust-to-weight ratio of aeroengines continues to increase and the operating temperatures of gas turbines rise, traditional superalloy materials are approaching their performance limits. New types of high-temperature structural materials, such as ceramic matrix composites reinforced with continuous silicon carbide fibers (CMC), are becoming a key focus for development in this industry. For a long time, high-performance continuous silicon carbide fibers, especially those of the third generation with high crystallinity, have presented high technical barriers in terms of high-temperature stability, creep resistance, and engineering manufacturing. The global market for such products is dominated by a few foreign companies, and they are also subject to certain technical restrictions and export controls. The breakthrough achieved by Hunan Zerui New Materials Co., Ltd. in high-crystallinity third-generation continuous silicon carbide fiber technology signifies further progress in China’s development of reinforcements for high-performance ceramic matrix composites. It also reflects the accelerating improvement of China’s industrial chain for high-end thermal structural materials.
