Expert appraisal of the scientific and technological achievements related to polyoxymethylene fiber aerogels by Kailuan Group has been completed

Recently, the Chinese Coal Society organized an expert panel to evaluate the scientific and technological achievements of the project \"Development of Technologies for Synthesizing Polyoxymethylene Fiber Aerogels and Their Phase-Change Composites\" carried out by the Coal Chemicals R&D Center of Kailuan Group. Following inquiries and discussions, the panel unanimously agreed that this project is highly innovative, and its overall technical achievements are at the international advanced level. “The project \"Development of Polyoxymethylene Fiber Aerogel and Its Phase-Change Composite Materials\" used polyoxymethylene fibers as the base material. By optimizing the fiber length, controlling the porous structure, and introducing nanofillers and initiators, several types of polyoxymethylene fiber aerogel materials were developed. These materials have a solar reflectivity and infrared emissivity both exceeding 90%, exhibit excellent radiation cooling and thermal regulation capabilities, have a low thermal conductivity, and can achieve a porosity of up to 91.8%. By combining organic phase change materials and microcapsules with polyoxymethylene fiber aerogel, a composite phase change aerogel temperature control material possessing three functions—reflection, radiation, and energy storage—was developed. This material exhibits a phase change enthalpy of over 215 J/g, enabling bidirectional intelligent temperature control: cooling during the day through phase change heat absorption, and compensating for heat loss at night via phase change heat release. In addition, the project team conducted research on the application of polyoxymethylene fiber aerogel materials and evaluated their performance, verifying their feasibility for use in areas such as heat management and energy conservation. These materials demonstrated excellent performance in battery heat management tests, enabling effective control of the battery’s operating temperature and significantly extending its cycle life. Two invention patents have been applied for as a result of this project, and one scientific paper has been published. Next, the Coal Chemical R&D Center of Kailuan Group will continue to explore and expand the diverse application scenarios for polyoxymethylene fiber aerogel materials, carry out long-term weathering resistance monitoring and performance optimization, intensify market promotion and industrial demonstration, and keep seeking new ways to apply products made from polyoxymethylene fibers.
