Similar to the ESD in chemical plants, only here it applies to the emergency shutdown of turbines
ETS is a turbine protection system designed primarily to protect the turbine. The interlock shutdown mechanisms include conditions such as vibration of the turbine itself, overspeed, thermal expansion, differential expansion, issues with lubricating oil and turbine oil, as well as problems related to the AST solenoid valves; there are also interlocks related to electrical aspects such as generator tripping
ETS in the industrial field is short for the turbine trip protection system. Its full name is Emergency Trip System; when the turbine is not operating properly and the control system of the turbo-generator is unable to keep the turbine system within normal parameters, in order to prevent damage to the turbo-generator system, the ETS causes the turbine to shut down by closing all of its steam inlet valves.
