A newcomer is bothering the experts again. There are 2 switches, both of the D LINK DES 1016D model. The 4 red cables connected on the left side of the upper switch correspond to the 128 network segment coming from stations 10 and 11; the 5 cables on the right side are related to the 130 network segment of the 5 computers. The green cables connected in corresponding positions on the lower switch relate to the 129 and 131 networks.Question 1: Does this switch have routing capabilities? I checked, and it seems to be a regular switch. So how are different networks connected together? Is it because of the LS software itself that this functionality exists?
Question 2: If this switch needs to be replaced, is any configuration required? Can the cables be plugged in arbitrarily? Or can another switch be used? If configuration is needed, how should it be done?
Question 3: Since the lights on the upper switch are brighter, can we determine that it’s currently using the 130 network, and that the 128 network is also in use?
Question 4: What are the conditions for automatic switching between servers A and B? Occasionally, some computers fail to operate certain valves; restarting the servers resolves this issue. Is this due to a problem with the computers themselves or something else?
There are quite a few questions here. The more questions, the more one can learn. I’d appreciate advice from the experts
1. Different IP ranges are due to advanced settings in the network connection properties of the network card. 2. Plug the sockets randomly; it’s better to have certain rules. For example, the first blank is Control Station 1, Control Station 2. . . 1 server. 3. The two IP ranges operate simultaneously. 128/129 is the communication network between the server and the control station ； 130/131 is the communication network between the server and the operation station. 4. Server failures or downloads by you can both lead to a switch. This is a MACS V5.2.4+SM project, right?
On a switch, two network segments are achieved by grouping ports into a VLAN within the switch. It seems like you should have two VLANs. Be careful when checking the wires. It cannot be connected to another VLAN. This also needs to be connected in conjunction with the IP settings on the other end of the network cable. Whether it works or not, the indicator light on the corresponding port of the switch should be on. It’s just that the flashing frequency might be different. Pay more attention and observe. It can be discovered then. Lines are divided into primary and backup. It depends on the regulations set by the respective system. Some are green as a backup. When it’s not possible to operate, try it on the server to determine whether the problem lies with the server or the operation station. Check again. Switch: During a failure, right? Why switch if there’s no problem! !

On May 23rd, I added an FM device but didn’t understand how to use the switch; I looked up what VLAN meant, but it was said online that this switch is just a layer 2 switch, a user-friendly model that works out of the box. So, if I want to replace it with a switch of the same model, can I just do that directly?
Also, for the connection from the DPU to the switch, and from the switch to the computer, should the network cables be used in straight-through or cross-over configuration?
In the past, devices did not have an adaptive function for direct connection or cross-connection; therefore, if there was a switch in between, a direct connection was used. These days, they generally have adaptive capabilities, but in your case, going with a direct connection is definitely the right choice.
