Dear sea friends, regarding the use of venturi scrubbers for syngas washing, are there any other types of scrubbers that can serve as alternatives? Scrubbers of these types should be able to achieve results comparable to those of venturi scrubbers in terms of humidification, cooling, and dust removal, while simultaneously having lower resistance.
What type of gasifier and process does the poster have? Is it a fixed-bed or a fluidized-bed? In the case of a fluidized bed, the venturi scrubber is generally installed at the inlet of the scrubber tower. So far, no good alternative devices have been heard of for this place. If it is a fixed-pressure gasification process using a Ruhr-type furnace, then the venturi tube should be removed and replaced with a scrubber tower. However, with just this modification, neither genuine Ruhr-type furnaces nor the imitation Ruhr-type furnaces produced by Second Academy Saiding will make such changes.
In fluidized bed gasifiers and venturi scrubbers, high resistance always occurs over time due to prolonged operation.
In a fluidized bed gasifier, an increase in venturi resistance does not necessarily indicate blockage; it could also be due to water present in the gasifier. When there is water in the gasifier, the pressure difference across the venturi increases and remains unstable. Therefore, if high resistance is caused by this issue, it is necessary to first address the problem of water in the gasifier
In a fluidized bed, the presence of ash and water in the syngas exiting the quench chamber is an ongoing phenomenon; it’s just that under abnormal operating conditions, the degree of ash and water contamination varies. After prolonged operation of the venturi washer, ash gradually accumulates in front of the throat section, resulting in increased operational resistance. Under normal conditions, there is always some level of resistance in the venturi. If other washing devices are used to replace the venturi, efforts should be made to eliminate this resistance as much as possible.
