During furnace drying, blockages at the slag outlet are a common issue. This usually occurs because, when the gasification furnace is shut down, the temperature is not raised enough to melt the slag; as a result, a thick layer of slag accumulates on the interior walls of the furnace. When the furnace temperature rises to a certain level during drying, the slag attached to the wall softens and moves downward. As it goes lower, the temperature drops, causing the slag to solidify again at the slag outlet and thus create a blockage. When this happens, there’s no good solution; generally, one has to stop the heating process, use large stones or tools to hit the inside, or insert stainless steel pipes into it.
I think there is also this situation: the furnace is shut down without the slag heating up, or the slag does not heat up fully. The vaporization furnace was heated not in accordance with the prescribed heating curve; the heating rate was too high (emergency heating to start up the furnace), which resulted in a large temperature difference between the inside and outside of the furnace, leading to thermal stress. This caused the slag to become brittle and break apart, falling into the gaps and causing blockages.
