Can helical gears have less vibration?
A helical gear is not exactly the same as a spiral gear; rather, a spiral gear represents the way in which two helical gears mesh with each other, and the difference between them lies in the direction in which force is transmitted between them in space. Ordinary spur gears engage simultaneously along the tooth width, resulting in shock vibrations and noise as well as unstable transmission. Helical cylindrical gear drives are superior to spur gears, and allow for a reduced center distance for high-speed, heavy-load applications.
