The impact of demulsifiers on biochemical wastewater treatment

A demulsifier can be added to the circulating ammonia water system via the inlet pipeline of the circulating ammonia water pump, which accelerates the dehydration and separation of tar, prolongs the service life of the ammonia water nozzles in the gas collection system, reduces the amount of tar in the remaining ammonia water, and lightens its color. COD and ammonia nitrogen also decreased to varying degrees. I heard recently that it could affect biochemical wastewater treatment. I would like to ask if there is any truth to this? What is the principle?
Will COD decrease? Why does the COD level increase after we make this addition? It doesn’t seem to have any effect on ammonia nitrogen either; it just improves the separation of tar from ammonia water significantly
