Dear experts in the industry, I have a question to ask. Currently, the water used for preparing coal slurry comes from wastewater from various processing units. Recently, it has been observed that the COD level of this wastewater is quite high – it used to be 800 mg/l, but now it is 1300 mg/l. The problem of coal slurry carrying excess water is severe. I would like to ask if there are any effective solutions, and what effects an increase in COD can have on the coal slurry.
Wastewater is used as pulping water, and the most common problem it causes is corrosion of pipes and valves in the graywater system. In some cases, the only solution is to use materials that can withstand higher temperatures for pipes and valves, which requires significant investment.
I would like to know whether fluctuations in wastewater COD have a significant impact on pulp production, and more specifically, what effect they have on the viscosity, flowability, and stability of the coal slurry.
Some manufacturers have already used wastewater with high COD levels, after adjusting it, as pulping water to produce qualified water-coal slurry; however, the concentration is not high, around 50 to 52. Once the concentration increases by just one unit, the viscosity increases exponentially. The liquidity is still decent. Now, manufacturers have developed four-channel burners, one of which is designed for handling organic solvents with high COD and high calorific value – an environmentally friendly solution that also generates profits.
