In the liquid phase, the desulfurizer rapidly oxidizes hydrosulfides into elemental sulfur using sodium metavanadate
The purpose is to produce sodium metavanadate through a reaction with sodium hydroxide.

As far as I know, vanadium is also used as a catalyst for ADA desulfurization, but how does it act as a catalyst, and what is its mechanism?
