At around 3 a.m. on July 20, the LLDPE (linear low-density polyethylene) plant at Yan’an China Coal Yueneng Chemical’s Polyolefins Center successfully produced high-quality high-density injection-grade polyethylene powder, marking the achievement of full-density polyethylene production in this facility and representing another breakthrough in terms of differentiated production. It is understood that the newly produced DMDA-8008 grade has a significantly higher melt index and density compared to the low-density polyethylene products manufactured previously. During the process of switching to alternative production, the plant’s technical staff overcame challenges such as sudden increases in static electricity, catalyst activity levels that did not match theoretical values, and large temperature fluctuations during heating. This experience helped to accumulate valuable knowledge for the production of high-density polyethylene, and it also confirmed the reliability of the plant in switching flexibly to the production of polymers with different densities. It is reported that the high-density injection molding grade product DMDA-8008 boasts good cold resistance, excellent chemical stability, high stiffness and toughness, as well as good resistance to environmental stress cracking. Once launched on the market, this product can be widely used in the production of high-demand end products such as food packaging materials and medical devices. This project is the world’s first integrated plant to produce olefins using coal, gas, and oil as raw materials. The projects include 1.8 million tons per year of methanol, 600,000 tons per year of DMTO, 1.5 million tons per year of residue catalytic thermal cracking (DCC), 300,000 tons per year of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), 300,000 tons per year of low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), 2 × 300,000 tons per year polypropylene plants, 90,000 tons per year of MTBE, and 40,000 tons per year of butene-1 plants, with an estimated total investment of 27 billion yuan. The project completed the entire process in July 2014.
