Construction of the ethylene glycol and circulating water facilities for the Shenhua Yulin Circular Economy Coal Comprehensive Utilization Project commenced / Source: Huahua Network Coal Chemicals Date: 10-14-2018 Clicks: 20 On October 10, the inauguration ceremony for the construction of the ethylene glycol and circulating water facilities as part of the first phase of the Shenhua Yulin Circular Economy Coal Comprehensive Utilization Project was held in the northern area of the Qingshui Coal Chemical Industry Park, within the Yushen Industrial Zone in Yulin City. The Shenhua Yulin Circular Economy Coal Comprehensive Utilization Project (Phase I)’s 400,000 tons per year ethylene glycol plant includes esterification units A/B, carbonylation units A/B, hydrogenation units A/B, a refining unit, intermediate tank areas, nitrogen tetroxide tank areas, a refrigeration station, a substation, and cabinet rooms. The project’s circulating water system consists of two circulating water plants, both equipped with counterflow reinforced concrete water-saving and mist-reducing cooling towers to reduce the amount of water that needs to be replenished. In addition, a side filtration system, a chemical dosing system, and a monitoring system are in place to monitor and adjust water quality, ensuring that the required amount of circulating water is available to meet the process requirements. Zhang Xiaopu, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Shaanxi Jiangong Eighth Construction Group Co., Ltd.; Tie Hua, Deputy General Manager; Quan Peng, Deputy Chief Economist; Dong Zhenyu, General Manager of Company 15; Tian Yuanku, Project Manager for the ethylene glycol project; Guo Huiji, Project Manager for the circulating water system; as well as other relevant officials from the group, Sun Shutao, Project Director of the EPC project team for the Shenhua Yulin Circular Economy Coal Comprehensive Utilization Project (Phase I); the main persons in charge of the relevant facilities; and Shan Xiang, Chief Engineer at Fushun Chengxin Project Management Co., Ltd., were all present at the commencement ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Liu Xuefeng, manager of the EPC construction management department. The Shenhua Yulin Circular Economy Coal Comprehensive Utilization Project (CTC Project) was approved for implementation by the **National Development and Reform Commission in March 2015. It is the largest coal chemical project in the world to date, with a planned total investment of 120 billion yuan. The first-phase project of the Shenhua Yulin Circular Economy Coal Comprehensive Utilization Project is a preliminary phase of this project (CTC Project). It also serves as a facility for producing methanol raw materials to support the already completed Shenhua Shaanxi Methanol Downstream Processing Project (SSMTO). The construction scope includes an annual production capacity of 1.8 million tons of methanol along with 400,000 tons of ethylene glycol per year. The facility comprises various process units such as air separation, coal gasification, shift reaction, acidic gas removal, methanol synthesis, sulfur recovery, and ethylene glycol production, along with the necessary utility systems and auxiliary facilities. Once completed, it will enable integrated production and management with the SSMTO project. The project is located in the northern area of the Qingshui Coal Chemical Industry Park within the Yushen Industrial Zone, with the plan to bring the facilities online by 2020.
