Current methanol-to-olefins plants require industrial-grade methanol as raw material; however, as these plants operate, it has been found that the excessive impurities in industrial-grade methanol can lead to an increase in side reactions within the MTO process, causing problems during operation. We would like to ask experts what kind of side reactions can occur in the MTO process due to impurities in methanol during normal operation, what impacts these reactions have on the plants, and what suggestions are there for improving the specifications of the methanol used as raw material in MTO processes? I would appreciate your advice!
For MTO-grade methanol, it is best to use pure methanol (mixed with deionized water to achieve a concentration of 95%). MTO-grade methanol contains too many heavy components, which leads to increased side reactions involving olefins and a decrease in yield. It is recommended to use pure methanol at a 95% concentration; however, this approach results in higher energy consumption. The patent holder can optimize the distillation process by using the heat generated during synthesis as a heat source for distillation, thereby minimizing energy consumption. . .
