Recently, the project \"Technology for the Oxidative Dehydrogenation of Butene to Butadiene, as well as Catalyst Development and Industrial Application\", independently developed by Huisheng Engineering (China) Co., Ltd. (\\"Huisheng Engineering\\"), passed the evaluation of scientific and technological achievements organized by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation in Beijing. Butadiene is an important basic chemical raw material. As global olefin feedstocks become lighter in weight, the amount of butadiene monomer produced through the conventional method of cracking C4 hydrocarbons in ethylene plants will decrease significantly. The global shortage of butadiene will be addressed by specialized butadiene production technologies, and the technology of producing butadiene through the oxidation dehydrogenation of butylene is one such solution ; Through the optimization of catalysts and process technologies in the Huisheng process for the oxidation-dehydrogenation of butylene to produce butadiene, production costs have been significantly reduced. This method can serve as an effective supplement to butadiene produced as a by-product of ethylene, contributing to the diversification of raw materials used in butadiene production. Given the current high prices of coal, this technology can be used for the comprehensive utilization of the C4 resources produced as a by-product of coal-to-olefins processes, in order to produce butadiene monomers with high added value. This approach can significantly improve the overall efficiency of MTO plants, offering good prospects for widespread adoption. The expert appraisal committee highly praised Huisheng Engineering’s efforts in technological innovation, stating that: \"The technology for the oxidation-dehydrogenation of butylene to produce butadiene, as well as the achievements in catalyst development and industrial application, are all at an internationally advanced level. In particular, the yield of products using the new catalysts for butylene oxidation-dehydrogenation is at the international leading level. The committee unanimously agreed to approve this appraisal\" and recommended that its widespread application be accelerated. Jin Yong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a professor at Tsinghua University, said, “Although the technology for producing butadiene through the oxidation dehydrogenation of butylene has been developed for over 50 years, it has not been widely adopted due to production costs.” Building on its previous technical achievements, Huisheng Engineering has carried out numerous technological innovations and improvements in catalysts and processes, effectively reducing energy consumption and production costs. This technology has good application prospects. ”It is reported that the butene oxidation-dehydrogenation to butadiene technology independently developed by Huisheng Engineering utilizes a two-stage adiabatic fixed-bed process along with a new catalyst developed by Huisheng. This technology enables a production capacity of 100,000 tons per year per production line, with a butene conversion rate of 80%, a butadiene selectivity of around 93%, and a yield of over 74% ; The separation section uses NMP or improved ACN technology, which can significantly reduce equipment investment and energy consumption. This technology also includes innovative techniques such as reactor technologies suitable for large-scale production, wastewater reuse from the facility, and online catalyst regeneration. At present, this technological achievement has been successfully applied industrially in the butadiene plant of Shandong Heze Yuhuang Chemical Co., Ltd., yielding significant economic and social benefits; it has also granted another license to Nanjing Chengzhi Yongqing Energy Technology Co., Ltd. for a butadiene plant with an annual capacity of 100,000 tons.
