Views: 28. On December 11, 2017, the award ceremony for the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation’s Science and Technology Awards was held in Beijing. The project \"Development of Separation Technology for Methanol-to-Olefins and Its Engineering Application\", carried out jointly by Huisheng Engineering (China) Co., Ltd. (\"Huisheng Engineering\"), Nanjing Chengzhi Clean Energy Co., Ltd., and Shandong Yangmei Hengtong Chemical Co., Ltd., won the Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress awarded by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation. Low-carbon olefins such as ethylene and propylene are important basic chemical raw materials. The Methanol-to-Olefins (“MTO”) technology provides a new route for olefin production, which can effectively reduce the reliance of the olefin industry on petroleum resources. The separation technology for olefin production from methanol is a key component of the complete technology for olefin production from methanol. The new separation technology for methanol-to-olefins developed independently by Huisheng Engineering, namely \"pre-cutting + oil absorption,\" was the first to propose the use of oil absorption to treat MTO reaction products. It pioneered the technology of oil absorption for MTO olefin separation, filling a gap in the international field of MTO olefin separation technologies. Meanwhile, it was the first time that pre-cutting technology was applied to the separation of MTO reaction products, and a falling-film heat exchange differential absorber that enables simultaneous mass and heat transfer was innovatively developed, effectively improving the recovery rate of ethylene products. When the Huisheng Engineering MTO olefin separation technology is used, the olefin recovery rate exceeds 99.8%, and the overall energy consumption is reduced by more than 10% compared to traditional cryogenic processes. Compared with other technologies at home and abroad, Huisheng Engineering’s MTO olefin separation technology can increase the ethylene recovery rate by over 1%, while reducing the amount of absorbent used by 25%. It boasts advantages such as a simple process, low energy consumption, and high product recovery rates. In July 2010, this technology was licensed for the first time at the 680,000 tons per year DMTO-II demonstration plant of Shaanxi Coal Group Pucheng Clean Energy Chemical Co., Ltd., enabling the domestic production of methanol-to-olefins separation technology and breaking the monopoly held by foreign patent holders in this field; in 2014, the plant was successfully commissioned for the first time. In September 2013, this technology was put into commercial operation for the first time at the 300,000 tons per year MTO plant of Nanjing Chengzhi Clean Energy Co., Ltd. (formerly Huisheng (Nanjing) Clean Energy Co., Ltd.). In June 2016, during the performance evaluation of the 300,000 tons per year MTO plant at Shandong Yangmei Hengtong Chemical Co., Ltd., the ethylene recovery rate reached 99.89%, setting the highest level in the global industry. Huisheng Engineering’s MTO olefin separation technology has yielded 3 granted patents and 1 proprietary technology. It can be used in combination with various methanol-to-olefins conversion technologies, such as UOP’s advanced MTO technology, the DMTO technology developed by Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, and the SHMTO technology independently developed by Shenhua Xinjiang, offering strong adaptability. Experts from the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation have evaluated this technology as follows: “It has reached an internationally leading level and possesses strong market competitiveness.” To date, this technology has been licensed 11 times, resulting in a production capacity of 4.78 million tons; 4 units are already in operation. It is the domestic methanol-to-olefins separation technology with the largest market share.
It depends on whether it is suitable for use with UOP equipment; can the ethylene yield reach such a high level when used with DMTO?
The cooperation on Nanjing Chengzhi’s 300,000 tons/year MTO project involved UOP technology, the partnership for Pucheng Clean Energy Chemical Co., Ltd.’s 680,000 tons/year project made use of DMTO-2 generation technology, and the collaboration on Shenhua Xinjiang’s 700,000 tons/year new materials project employed SHMTO technology, indicating that Huisheng’s olefin separation technologies possess broad technical adaptability.
