Performance parameter: Parameters that characterize the main performance of a compressor, such as gas volume, pressure, temperature, power, as well as noise and vibration. 2. Constructional parameter: Parameters that describe the structural characteristics of a compressor, such as piston force, stroke, speed, number of cylinders, diameter of each cylinder stage, and external dimensions. 3. Inlet pressure/Suction pressure: The average absolute total pressure of the gas at the standard suction position. 4. Compressor inlet pressure/suction pressure of a compressor – The suction pressure at the first stage of the compressor is referred to as the inlet pressure.5. Discharge pressure – The average absolute total pressure of the gas at the standard discharge position.
6. Compressor discharge pressure – The discharge pressure at the last stage of the compressor is called the discharge pressure.
7. Rated pressure – The pressure that meets the requirements specified by relevant standards, contracts, or nameplates.

9. Nominal pressure – A pressure value used as a grading criterion or for preliminary design calculations, without taking various influences into account.
10. Stage pressure ratio – The ratio of the discharge pressure to the suction pressure of a stage.
11. Total pressure ratio
12. Overall pressure ratio – The ratio of the compressor’s discharge pressure to its inlet pressure.
13. Pressure loss – The pressure drop that occurs during the flow of a fluid due to various resistances.
14. Actual pressure – The instantaneous pressure value of the compressor during operation.
15. Inlet temperature/suction temperature – The total temperature of the gas at the standard suction position.
16. Compressor inlet temperature/suction temperature of a compressor – The suction temperature at the first stage of the compressor is called the inlet temperature.
17. Discharge temperature – The total temperature of the gas at the standard discharge position.
18. Compressor discharge temperature – The discharge temperature at the last stage of the compressor is called the discharge temperature.
19. Capacity – The volume of gas compressed by a certain stage of the compressor and discharged at the standard discharge position, adjusted to account for the inlet temperature, inlet pressure, and its components (such as humidity).
20. Compressor capacity – The discharge volume at the last stage of the compressor is referred to as the compressor’s capacity.
21. Standard capacity – The capacity when adjusted to standard operating conditions (temperature and pressure).
22. Rotational speed/rotation frequency
23. Rotational speed/rotations per minute/rotational frequency – The number of rotations per unit time of the main shaft of a compressor driven by an axle.
24. Outer dead point – The extreme position reached by the piston in its movement toward the cover or outer end.
25. Inner dead point – The extreme position reached by the piston in its movement toward the axle or inside the cylinder.
26. Stroke – The distance traveled by a point on the piston from the outer dead point to the inner dead point.
27. Clearance volume – The volume within the cylinder that can hold residual gas when the piston is at the dead points.
28. Stroke volume/swept volume – The volume of gas swept by the piston during one stroke.
29. Relative clearance volume – The ratio of the clearance volume to the stroke volume.
30. Working volume – The sum of the stroke volume and the corresponding clearance volume.
31. Balancing volume – The volume of the ventilation chambers in a compressor that serves to balance the forces generated by gas pressure.
32. Cylinder diameter – The diameter of the cylinder where the piston moves.
33. Stroke-bore ratio – The ratio of the stroke to the cylinder diameter.
34. Crank radius – The distance between the axis of the crankshaft journal and the axis of the crank pin.
35. Length of connecting rod – The distance between the axes of the large and small ends of the connecting rod.
36. Ratio of crank radius to length of connecting rod – The ratio of the crank radius to the length of the connecting rod.
37. Mean piston speed – The average value of the instantaneous piston speed per unit time.
38. High-speedity coefficient – Sn2/m(r/min)2, which is the product of the stroke and the square of the rotational speed.
39. Capacity coefficient – The ratio of the compressor’s capacity to the stroke volume of the first stage over a given time period.
40. Pressure coefficient – The ratio of the pressure after considering losses due to flow and pulsation to the original inlet pressure.
41. Volume coefficient – A coefficient that takes into account the expansion of the compressed medium in the clearance volume, thereby indicating the efficiency of the stroke volume.
42. Heating coefficient
43. Temperature coefficient – A coefficient that takes into account the heating of the gas during inhalation, indicating the degree of utilization of the stroke volume.
44. Gas seal coefficient
45. Gas leak coefficient – A coefficient that takes into account leaks of the compressed medium in various parts of the cylinder, indicating the degree of utilization of the inhaled gas volume.
46. Condensate coefficient
47. Humidity coefficient – A coefficient that takes into account the effect of moist air, which becomes condensed after compression and cooling, on the performance of subsequent stages of the compressor.
48. Exhaust coefficient – In compressors used in industrial processes, this coefficient takes into account the extraction or addition of gas between stages, thereby affecting the stroke volume of the next stage.

50. Compressibility factor – A dimensionless factor that indicates the difference between the behavior of real gases and ideal gases.
51. Distance between rows/distances between lines – The distance between the parallel axes of adjacent cylinders.
1. Crankshaft piston compressor – A compressor that has a crankshaft with rotating motion.
2. Reciprocating compressor without crankshaft – A compressor that lacks a crankshaft or any rotating shaft.
3. Shaft piston compressor – A compressor in which the piston’s axis is parallel to the axis of the drive shaft, with pistons arranged around it.
4. Diaphragm compressor – A compressor in which a diaphragm is driven mechanically or hydraulically to complete the compression cycle.
5. Gas compressor – A general term for compressors that compress gases other than air; air compressors are also included in this category.
6. Air compressor – A compressor whose working medium is air.
7. General purpose compressor/all purpose compressor/compressor for pressed air/pressed-air compressor – A compressor used to provide power for pneumatic machinery and tools.
8. Process compressor – A compressor used in industrial processes such as those in the oil and chemical industries.
9. Compressor for ship purpose – A compressor designed specifically for use on ships.
10. Filling compressor – A compressor used to fill containers with compressed gas.
11. Multi-purpose compressor/multi-service compressor – A compressor in which multiple types of gases are compressed in different cylinders, without any sequential relationship between them.
12. Combined compressor/combination compressor – A compressor that uses different types of compressors in sequence to increase the pressure of the gas.
13. Motor compressor/gas-engine compressor – A compressor driven by a motor or gas engine.
14. Integral compressor/motor compressor – A compressor that shares part of its moving mechanism with a reciprocating engine. Compressors with less common movement mechanisms driven by gas engines are also called motorcycle compressors. 15. free piston compressor Free piston compressor - a crankshaft-less compressor in which internal combustion power directly compresses the working medium through a counter-rotating piston. The return stroke and synchronization of the piston are accomplished using an air cushion and a synchronization mechanism. 16. compressor with electro-magnetically actuated piston. Electromagnetic driven piston compressor (electromagnetic compressor) - a compressor in which the magnetic force of an alternating magnetic field directly drives the piston to reciprocate linear motion to complete the compression cycle. 17. mini type compressor micro compressor - generally refers to an air compressor with a power of no more than 15 kW and a rated pressure of no more than 1.4MPa 18. stationary compressor stationary compressor (fixed compressor) - a compressor fixed on the foundation 19. portable compressor mobile compressor (mobile compressor) - equipped with a closed casing to cover the main engine, driver and ancillary equipment to form an independent unit 23. water cooled compressor Mixed cooling compressor - a compressor in which the compressed medium is cooled by (air) gas and liquid respectively 26. compressor with crosshead compressor with crosshead - a compressor that compresses the medium with a labyrinth seal 30. booster compressor Booster compressor (pressurizer) - a compressor that further increases the medium pressure in a system with pressure (not less than 0.1MPa) 31. recycle compressor Circulation compressor (cycle machine) - after the compressed medium is discharged from the exhaust port, part or all of it returns to the suction port after passing through a certain system, and the total pressure ratio is not greater than 2. 32. variable-stage compressor Variable-stage compressor (variable working condition compressor) - injects liquid into the compressed medium to reduce the temperature of the medium 15 ideal compressor Ideal compressor - a compressor with no clearance volume, no leakage, and no pressure loss.
