Does the hydrogen production and hydrogenation reactor have temperature and pressure interlocks?
Interlocks are common for temperature, but less so for pressure.
Hydrogenation reactors are typically equipped with high bed temperature interlocks and high wall temperature interlocks for emergency pressure relief. The pressure in the reaction system is generally controlled by reciprocating compressors, and overpressure occurrences are quite rare.
I have seen that the outlet of the crude benzene hydrogenation main reactor is equipped with three temperature points; if two of them reach their high-high limits, the plant shuts down automatically as a result of interlock action
Generally, there should be a temperature interlock in place to shut down the furnace or relieve pressure.
