Comrades, those of us who work in the construction industry know that the JGJ81 standard is used for welding steel structures. In reality, however, almost none of the welders these days pass their exams based on this standard. The commonly used welder certificates these days are either those issued by the Technical Supervision Bureau or cards issued by the Labor Bureau. So how should welders at our construction site control it now? . . Personally, I think both of these certificates can be accepted, but the card lacks the required qualifications; for example, it doesn’t have the certification for carbon dioxide shielded welding. . . . Should we let him weld or not?
At present, almost none of the welders used in most private enterprises possess certificates, and quality problems occur frequently; there is a call for relevant authorities to take action to address this issue.
It’s a fact that currently, the workers involved in contract projects in factories generally lack the necessary qualifications. If such qualifications were required, many of them would just fake them; it’s still those same people who do the work, and they truly don’t have any real qualifications. As for quality, there’s no way to ensure it – it’s impossible to manage it! On top of that, many senior leaders don’t have this mindset. There are also contractors who are just connections of the leaders, making it really difficult for the lower-ranking staff to get things done ； Larger projects might be better!
Well, when working on large-scale projects in a proper manner, strict requirements can be applied. . . So, having worked on more large-scale projects, especially those carried out by foreign companies, I feel like I’ve become disconnected from smaller projects. What we need on site is a certificate from the Technical Quality Supervision Bureau; the certificate issued by the Labor Bureau is required for special types of work. Welders working with steel structures must take examinations in accordance with 3G standards when welding vertical plates.
We organize our own welder examinations: we give them two sections of pipe and have them weld them by themselves. After welding, we use a pressure testing machine to check for leaks; if there are any leaks, they are considered unqualified and not given a certificate. If there are no leaks, they are considered qualified and issued a certificate, which is valid in our factory and allows them to start working. This allows for the identification of genuine and fake items

In practice, there are very few certified welders available for welding steel structures, as the costs are too high; as a result, contractors cannot make a profit, so there is no effective way to ensure proper control.
In your company, welders working at construction sites must hold valid certificates to be allowed to work there. You should definitely conduct inspections on site; if that’s not possible, your own company should carry out assessments and issue assessment certificates to your engineering department members before they can start working
