For the larger-diameter outlets of oil tanks, two valves and one hose are generally installed; the first valve located near the tank mouth is usually called the root valve, and both valves should be supported by brackets. Rigid supports such as concrete are commonly used under the root valves of oil tanks on-site, but in the event of an earthquake, these rigid supports can cause the tank outlet to be torn apart, leading to problems. For our new tanks, we create an extended platform at the location of the root valve for the tank foundation; the top surface of this platform is at the same elevation as the ground level of the tank area, so it does not take up any operating space. In this way, the pivot points for the rigid support are integrated with the tank foundation, which prevents the decline of these pivot points due to ground settlement. I believe this also helps to mitigate the effects of earthquakes
