The 8.12 explosion in Binhai New Area, Tianjin: At around 23:30 on August 12, 2015, an explosion occurred at a container terminal at the intersection of Fifth Street and Yuejin Road in Binhai New Area, Tianjin. The explosion was caused by flammable and explosive materials contained within the containers. Flames erupted at the scene, and following intense explosions, a grayish-white mushroom cloud dozens of meters high rose instantly. Soon after, the area above the explosion site was reddened by flames, with sparks flying in the vicinity. The first explosion occurred at 23:34:06 on August 12, 2015, with a local magnitude of about 2.3, equivalent to 3 tons of T*T; the second explosion happened 30 seconds later, with a local magnitude of about 2.9, equivalent to 21 tons of T*T. As of 3 p.m. on September 11, a total of 165 victims were identified, with 8 people missing. Among them, there are 24 public security fire fighters, 75 fire fighters from Tianjin Port, 11 police officers, and 55 other personnel. The number of people missing is 8, including 5 firefighters from Tianjin Port and 3 others. 233 patients were hospitalized, of whom 3 were in critical condition and 3 were in severe condition; a total of 565 patients have been discharged.
