I’ve read many posts about the steps for putting steam into use in chemical plants. So when will the steam condensate line be put into use? Was the entire steam heating system put into use once it was completed, or was the condensate piping network also put into use before steam was supplied?
It’s very simple: before putting it into use, check that the stop valves and bypass valves on the pipelines are closed, that the blind flanges on the pipeline sections are in proper condition, that the pipelines are properly insulated, that the traps are in operation, that the end vents are open, and that the drain valves are opened to discharge the condensate. Steam is supplied via a bypass on the pipeline in the startup zone to warm the pipes; gradually increase the size of the bypass. A silencer is used to control the noise generated by the steam. Once warming of the pipes is complete, the end valve is closed to release pressure and raise it again.
It is put into use together when heating the pipes with steam; first, the drain valve is opened for drainage, and as the steam flow is gradually increased, the local drain valve is slowly closed.
Before introducing steam into the pipeline, the drain valve must be opened first; if steam is introduced into a pipeline that contains a large amount of water, it can cause vibration in the pipeline, which is very dangerous.
Put them into use at the same time; be sure to introduce steam slowly
Before turning on the steam, it is necessary to ensure that the flow path is unobstructed; the condensate line also needs to be put into use. Typically, all the local drain valves on the steam line and the condensate line are opened first to allow water to drain out. The steam valve is then opened slightly, and steam is introduced slowly to warm the pipes, in order to prevent water hammer. This process is carried out from front to back until no water is left; at that point, the local drain valves are closed, after which the pressure is increased gradually.
