The designed tower is 19.5 m tall and has a diameter of 1400 mm. The height of the packing in the rectification section is 9 m, and this section is divided into two parts; the height of the stripping section is 6 m, with no division into sections. The liquid level in the tower bottom is 0.9 m, and the distance from the packing to this liquid level is 0.6 m. In other words, the space at the bottom of the tower is 1.5 m, while 2 m of space is reserved at the top of the tower. The remaining 1 m is allocated for the redistributor and support rings. I’m not sure if this is sufficient. Overall, is 29.5 m a reasonable height? Could there be any problems? Thank you everyone.
Is the distillation section 9m or 18m?

Should operational flexibility be taken into consideration? Setting the liquid level at 0.6m from the packing – is this an appropriate distance? Increasing it slightly can create more evaporation space while also allowing for adjustments in case of changes in liquid level.
There is a 2m margin at the top of the tower. 1.5m at the bottom of the tower is not enough; let’s add another 1m. It is not only about considering operational flexibility but also about increasing people’s working space. Is an access hatch provided between the two sections of packing? If a manhole is to be installed, 1m is a bit too little. It’s fine if it’s not set.
A filler tower with a large diameter and sections of 6 meters each is a bit much; it is necessary to install collectors and distributors in separate sections
Is this process design? The heights of these fillers should be determined by the process engineering team; it’s not reliable for designers to decide them arbitrarily, as the process requirements may not be met. Even in such cases, it is necessary to seek the opinions of the users before making any decisions
