1. If a mechanical seal is used in a vertical submersible pump, how can the lubrication and cooling of the seal surfaces be ensured during startup and shutdown? 2. For axially split pumps, what sealing material is generally used for the joint surfaces? Is it a gasket, or does nothing need to be used? Just relying on elastic deformation between metals? 3. If a Plan11 flushing scheme is used for centrifugal pumps, how does the flushing fluid flow? From the outlet to the sealing chamber, where does it then flow? 4. In what situations are open impellers used in vertical submersible pumps?
Vertical submersible pumps generally use a stable external flushing water supply, such as the flushing schemes 54/32/53, etc. You can try self-flushing if you haven’t used it before; in my opinion, using graphite sealing surfaces should also work – but this is just for reference! 2. The choice of gasket depends on the properties of your medium; options include graphite, PTFE, asbestos gaskets, highland barley paper, metal gaskets, etc. It is also possible to use no gasket at all, but this requires a very high level of precision in the pump’s manufacturing. Every pump I’ve seen has used a gasket! In the 11-flush scheme, fluid flows from the outlet to the mechanical seal chamber and then returns to the pump chamber via the back side of the impeller, thus creating a circulation. Due to the relatively high pressure at the outlet, it is easy for the medium to block the flow channels. Hope this helps! Can non-metallic gaskets be used on the split surface of API610 pumps? 3. The pressure at the outlet of the pump impeller should be higher than that in the sealing chamber; how does the flow take place?
A submersible pump can definitely use a single seal; it depends on how you make the modifications! If you are using the manufacturer’s product, are there any conditions on site for modifications? What is your medium? Are there crystals?
Can metal gaskets be used with API610? You can check the standard for that information; I have it here, but I’m not sure if it’s the latest version I’ll check it for you when I have time! Circulation is possible only because the pressure at the outlet is higher than the pressure in the sealing chamber.
