The pump shaft materials encountered are mostly 45#. When asked the manufacturer, it was said that the pump shaft does not come into contact with the medium – is that true?
The pump shafts of many pumps are protected by shaft sleeves, impellers, impeller nuts, etc., so as to avoid contact with the medium. If the pump shaft is manufactured in accordance with the API610 standard, its material will be different. However, it should be noted when making a choice that pumps with different material shafts can transmit different torques.
Looking at its structure, the pump shaft of corrosion-resistant pumps generally does not come into contact with the medium
As long as the medium is not corrosive, there should be no problem. If it is corrosive, it must be mentioned separately, as the sealing between mechanical components is not sufficient to ensure that the pump shaft does not come into contact with the medium.
The pumps used for pumping fluorsilicic acid here also use 45# material; as long as the seals at each stage are in good condition and the medium does not come into contact with the shaft, corrosion is not a concern.
Your medium is of average quality; 45 grade steel is more than sufficient for the shaft material. The claim that the pump shaft does not come into contact with the medium is not accurate – it depends on the type of sealing used; in the case of gaskets, there is slight contact
For standard chemical pumps, the pump shaft must take into account the corrosive nature of the medium, as mechanical seals alone are not sufficient to ensure complete isolation from the medium.
