Experts: The mechanical seal of the sulfuric acid pump used in one of our company’s units keeps failing. The seal is flushed using the PLAN11 method. After disassembly, it was found that the sulfuric acid was dirty, containing solid particles; in particular, the reaction between sulfuric acid and acetylene leads to the formation of carbides, which cause the seal springs to get stuck and prevent any adjustment being possible. The mechanical seal currently in use has a small spring structure; it can be replaced with one featuring a large spring or a wave spring structure, which will provide better resistance to blockages
What about changing to 31? Add a separator?
For plan31, the specific gravity of the solid particles needs to be more than twice that of the liquid in order to achieve good results
I just checked – the density of sulfuric acid is 1.8, which is quite high. As for carbon deposits, although there are no specific figures available, it’s estimated to be around 2 or a little higher; indeed, this doesn’t yield the best results. It should still be helpful in extending the seal’s lifespan.
If it were any less, it wouldn’t be possible to separate them. Another approach needs to be adopted to increase the lifespan of the seal
The large spring was also replaced, but it still doesn’t work!
Let’s try changing to PLAN53A
Then the cost will immediately rise by several notches. :lol
Try a sealing structure in which the spring does not come into contact with the medium.
