For some pumps in the plant, such as the condensate water pumps, the mechanical seals of these pumps are cooled using circulating water. I see that there are sight glasses in the circulating water pipes – what is the purpose of installing these sight glasses? I don’t quite understand, thank you. Please discuss, extra points available
A reminder from the design institute: Generally, return water pipes for cooling water should be equipped with return water sight glasses. Its function is to check whether the circulating water pipeline is unobstructed. PS: In some cases, the temperature of the mechanical seal is quite high; for example, when pumping liquids at temperatures above 300°C, the cooling system for the mechanical seal tends to reach high temperatures. Scale formation can occur as a result of the circulation of water, and since the circulating water isn’t always clean, coupled with the fact that the pipes used for cooling the mechanical seal aren’t thick enough, blockages can easily occur. With a return water sight glass, it’s possible to observe the flow of water through it.
