Common straight-through types are mainly used to cut off fluids. Three-way and four-way plug valves are suitable for fluid direction reversal. The closing element of such valves is a perforated cylinder that rotates around an axis perpendicular to the channel, thereby enabling the opening and closing of the channel. Plug valves are primarily used to open and close the flow of media in pipes and equipment. The main advantages of the plug valve are as follows: 1. It is suitable for frequent use, with quick and easy operation. 2. Low fluid resistance. 3. It has a simple structure, relatively small volume, light weight, and is easy to maintain. 4. Good sealing performance. 5. Not restricted by the installation direction; the flow direction of the medium can be arbitrary. 6. No vibration, low noise. Based on their structural design, plug valves can be divided into four types: fixed-type plug valves, self-sealing plug valves, packed plug valves, and lubricated plug valves. Classified by channel type, they can be divided into straight-through, three-way, and four-way types.

It’s a plug valve; the plug body is usually conical in shape. It is commonly found in level gauges for atmospheric pressure boilers, as well as as faucets in domestic water heating systems. It seems to be less used in chemical industry systems.
