VACUUM BREAKERS are devices designed to break vacuum conditions; they enable rapid intake of atmospheric air when a vacuum forms in the system, thereby breaking that vacuum and preventing backflow contamination as well as damage to the pipes. Vacuum systems mainly come in three types: atmospheric, pressure, and hose-type. The atmospheric type is further divided into ceiling-mounted and direct-connected types. The OR vacuum breaker belongs to the atmospheric ceiling-mounted type; it must be installed vertically at the highest point of the water distribution branch, and cannot be installed upside down or horizontally.
