What surface treatment can be applied to 45 steel to resist organic exhaust gases such as VOCs? The equipment I am currently working on requires components made of 45 steel, but these components will be in direct contact with organic exhaust gases such as those containing high concentrations of VOCs. Could you all advise me on what kind of surface treatment can be applied to 45 steel to make it resistant to such organic exhaust gases?
My suggestion is that the composition of VOC gases is simply too complex. Some are acidic, while others are alkaline. It is recommended that you describe the operating conditions; otherwise, it will be impossible to provide an answer. I’ve encountered VOCs before that can corrode stainless steel completely. Asking targeted questions can save a lot of time; otherwise, the post is likely to get buried.

Also, many VOCs undergo pre-treatment; after that treatment, they are no longer corrosive. When considering everything together, it becomes much simpler.
Coating the surface with resin is simple and convenient, has a low cost, and is resistant to acids and alkalis – why not do it? Don’t make it too complicated.
